GOVERNMENT SUPPORT · CHECKED 22 OCTOBER 2026

EV rebates: check what is still open.

Several widely repeated EV purchase rebates have closed. Registration concessions, duty rules and loans are different forms of support, with different eligibility tests. This dated register links to the administering government source so you can confirm the rules before relying on a discount.

It covers the listed household purchase and charger programs, not every fleet, council or business grant. “Closed” describes the named program. It does not establish that no other support exists in that jurisdiction.

Home and shared-building charging support

A grant can close when funds are allocated even if an older guide still describes how to apply. We prioritise the current administering page and show conditional finance as a loan. Get any required approval before ordering equipment, and check whether the program requires an approved installer or an application before work starts.

ACT: Conditional low-interest loan

The Sustainable Household Scheme lists EVs and charging infrastructure. Eligible applicants can borrow $2,000–$20,000 at 3%, over up to ten years. Earlier participants have a lower lifetime cap. This is repayable finance, subject to scheme and lending criteria, not a cash rebate. Program source. Checked 22 October 2026.

NSW: EV ready buildings grant closed

The administering program page says the grant has reached its current allocation. Stage 2 applications closed on 8 October 2025; previously submitted applications continue to be assessed. Program source. Checked 22 October 2026.

TAS: Energy Saver Loan Scheme closed

The current ReCFIT scheme page and closure notice take precedence over older EV charging subpages that still describe loans. New availability has not been established. Program source. Checked 22 October 2026.

WA: Charge Up round 3 closed

The WA Government program summary records that round 3 applications have closed. The grant was aimed at eligible businesses, non-profits and local governments, not an automatic household charger payment. Program source. Checked 22 October 2026.

For other locations and newly announced rounds, use the Australian Government rebates and assistance finder and then read the administering agency’s current conditions. This selection does not establish an open household charger rebate in every state.

Federal electric car tax treatment is separate

The Electric Car Discount concerns eligible employment arrangements. It is not a universal cash rebate paid to every buyer. Our FBT guide distinguishes the existing exemption from Treasury’s proposed changes and explains why an advertised drive-away price cannot determine FBT base value or eligibility.

The Australian Government EV support guide links to the ATO and state programs. Confirm the current legal treatment with your employer or registered adviser before making a finance or salary-packaging commitment.

Before you use a discount in your budget

  1. Confirm the program is accepting new applications, rather than processing older claims.
  2. Check the relevant purchase, contract, delivery and registration dates.
  3. Read the vehicle value definition, residency, ownership and other eligibility rules.
  4. Keep the purchase price, repayable loan, tax treatment and ongoing charging cost separate.

General information, not tax advice or an eligibility decision. Sources were checked on the date shown and can change. Report a source correction, estimate weekly charging energy or read the home charger installation guide.
