AUSTRALIAN ELECTRIC CAR PRICES | CHECKED 24 OCTOBER 2026
Electric car prices and charging costs
Advertised prices in this checked selection start at $47,990 drive-away and $49,900 before on-road costs. The table adds five years of home-charging energy at 15,000 km a year.
The two price bases have different inclusions. Use the price-basis filter to compare like with like, then open the linked offer for its stock, delivery and registration conditions. A current-equivalent price can refer to a newer model year than the consumption configuration. Both years remain visible.

Assumptions: 15,000 km/year, five identical years, Ausgrid home reference, zero extra energy allowance. Green marks the lowest purchase price within each price basis.
Read the advertised price before comparing
A drive-away offer normally combines the car with stated delivery and registration costs for the advertised conditions. Location, options and eligibility can change the result. A price before on-road costs requires those amounts to be added. Do not subtract one basis from the other and treat the difference as a saving. Ask the seller for a written total for your postcode and chosen vehicle.
A low headline can also be tied to a build year, delivery deadline or limited stock. The source date tells you when we retrieved the offer. It does not reserve that vehicle or guarantee that the seller still has it. Paint, wheels and accessories can change the final price and, in some cases, energy consumption. Keep the final quote beside the source configuration when comparing alternatives.
What five years of charging adds
The calculation multiplies certified Wh/km by 75,000 km, divides by 1,000 to obtain kWh, then applies the home reference rate. A car using 150 Wh/km needs 11,250 kWh for that distance. At an entered 30c/kWh, that is $3,375 over five years. At 70c/kWh it is $7,875. Your electricity arrangements can change the energy component substantially.
The table keeps the same tariff and distance for every car. This makes its arithmetic comparable without pretending every household pays the reference rate. Open a car's calculator link to enter your home bill, solar export income forgone, off-peak window and public share. Your actual driving conditions may differ from the source test. The extra allowance lets you test a higher consumption scenario.
Five-year energy is a constant-input scenario. It assumes the same distance and rate in each year. It does not forecast future tariffs, inflation or resale value. Charging-session fees and parking can also matter for frequent public users. Include these in a separate budget or enter weekly public fees in the main calculator.
Purchase plus energy is a partial budget
The last column adds the stated purchase price to the energy estimate. It helps show when a lower-energy car still costs more upfront. It leaves out insurance, finance, servicing, tyres, registration renewals and resale. On-road costs remain excluded for prices labelled that way. A personal ownership budget needs those amounts added using quotes that apply to you.
For two cars with the same advertised-price basis, the main calculator can show the extra purchase price and energy-saving payback. A payback appears only when the dearer car actually saves energy at your inputs. A lower purchase price or zero energy saving needs no invented recovery period. Compare both the annual dollar saving and the years you expect to keep the car.
Why a price can be absent
This selection includes configurations with a named price source and a confirmed advertised basis. Some consumption records describe older releases whose original trims have changed. Their energy figures remain useful to existing owners, but a newer car's price cannot be presented as the old car's exact price. Where a current equivalent is used, the record says so.
Battery capacities also need a stated basis. Usable capacity describes the energy available within the vehicle's operating limits. Gross capacity covers the whole pack. Some makers publish a capacity without naming either basis. The table shows that wording rather than converting it into usable capacity. Fields without adequate evidence stay out of the comparison.
Use the table for your shortlist
Filter to one price basis, sort by purchase cost, then check whether the lowest-energy option changes your five-year result enough to matter. Open the source offer and calculator for each shortlisted configuration. Keep a record of the quoted vehicle, model year and inclusions. A small weekly difference can be useful, but it should be weighed against the much larger purchase amount.
